The E. B. Green Digital Collection

The Green and Wicks architecture firm significantly shaped the architectural landscape and heritage of Buffalo, New York. Along with his partner, William S. Wicks, Edward B. Green designed many notable Buffalo landmarks, including the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Main Street's Market Arcade and downtown's gold-domed M & T Bank (formerly Buffalo Savings Bank). After Wicks' retirement in 1917, Green continued working. Throughout his career, E.B. Green designed over 300 commercial and residential buildings in the Greater Buffalo area.

The E.B. Green Digital Collection of the Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society's Research Library is an ongoing electronic resource project providing access to the Green and Wicks archival collection. The purposes of the digital library are:

  • to present selections of the collection's material in an easily accessible online environment, making the unique and valuable information they contain more widely available
  • to preserve these fragile materials by protecting them from frequent handling
  • to augment the existing knowledge of our current users
  • to further stimulate interest in E.B Green and the collection

This collection includes the 1890-1901 Cost and Contract ledger from the architectural firm of Green & Wicks and photographs from the Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society (BECHS).
