Building Materials
The main materials used in the construction of the building.
Construction Date
The year, or range of years, when the building was constructed.
Contractor
The name of the company (companies) or person(s) hired to perform work on the building.
Contributor
The party responsible for the subject of each image and digital surrogate in this collection, but not to the extent of the creator. For example, the contributor for the photographs is Green & Wicks, since the photographs capture the buildings they designed.
Creator
The party primarily responsible for the object digitized for this collection. For the Cost & Contract Book, this is Green & Wicks; for the photographs, it is the photographer.
Date
The year or range of years when the object was created. For the Cost & Contract book materials, the date of entries and the date of construction is assumed to be the same.
Date Digital
The month and year that the digital copy of the object was created, in YYYY-MM format.
Description
Information transcribed directly from the Cost & Contract Book about various aspects of the building, such as number of stories, building materials, construction method, and unusual design features. This information is only given when explicitly written.
Digital File Name
A unique ID number assigned to each digitized image.
Format Creation
The equipment used in digitization.
Identifier
A unique ID number assigned to each record in the digital library.
Medium of Original
What the object was before it was digitized. For Cost & Contract Book materials, this field lists all the documents comprising an entry in the Cost & Contract Book, including the ledger entry itself, architectural drawings, or other documents pasted into the book.
Neighborhood
The section of Buffalo, NY in which the building is (or was) located. Neighborhood information is not given for buildings outside Buffalo, NY.
Note
Information not captured in other fields, including any discrepancies in names and addresses.
Original File Size
The size and resolution of the TIFF files from which the JPEG files in the digital library were made.
Owner
The party that commissioned the building or owned the building after construction.
Project Completed
The Cost & Contract Book contains some plans for projects never completed. This field will tell you whether the building was actually constructed.
Project Cost
Total cost of the building, including architect's fees, at the time of construction.
Project Title
Each architectural project undertaken by Green & Wicks was assigned a name. This name is taken from the Cost & Contract Book and is either the name by which the building is known or the building's address.
Project Type
The projects in the Cost & Contract Book fell into three categories: new buildings, additions to existing buildings, and alterations to existing buildings.
Publisher
The Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society is credited with making all the objects in the digital library available to the public.
Rights Holder
The Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society holds the copyright for all digital surrogates in this collection.
Scale
The scale used in the measurements for architectural drawings and floor plans.
Source
This field will tell from you where in the Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society collection the object came, including page numbers in the Cost & Contract Book and folder names for the Photograph Collection.
Structure Dimensions
Total area of the building in square feet.
Structure Location
The exact or approximate address of the building.
Structure Status
Whether the building has been demolished or if it is currently standing.
Structure Type
This is the term used in the Cost & Contract book to describe the building according to its type or function.
Subject
The buildings from the Cost & Contract Book were categorized according to their type or function (see Structure Type above), based on the subject terms the Research Library uses for its Photograph Collection.
